The Small Grants Programme (SGP) is a community-led programme funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to address global environmental issues. Through decentralized operations at the national level, SGP empowers and improves the skills of local civil society organizations, especially women, indigenous people, youth and people with disabilities. As a GEF-supported project, the SGP plays an important role in achieving the objectives of the multilateral environmental agreements by leveraging GEF dedicated funds and matching funds from communities, government departments and other donors.
SGP promotes intersectoral and integrated solutions to address environmental challenges by ensuring community inclusion and local stakeholder engagement and contributes to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
Since its launch in July 2009, SGP China has funded 215 projects in 27 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China, with grants totaling US $9,805,691.
